Wow Things are going crazy. Just got back from a wedding in Windsor (UK). Its completely different from shooting in a place where its sunny constantly bright as hell….but more on that later.
Ok I know its been a while since…about 2…maybe 3 weeks but I would like to say congrats to two of my oldest friends. Nick & Mel Lewis. They were married on July 3rd 2010 at Coco Reef. These two are great I wish them all the best in the future.
First off I like to say sorry for the lack of post these past few months, I been busy and been having some major computer problems. I did have a big post about one of my fav photographers but ill guess that will have to come later (It got lost when the old computer crashed…..). With that said im coming to you now from one of two brand new computers just landed and opened…well the desktop opened the laptop is in the process of being loaded and optimized.
Now on to my latest.
Over the past week and a half from the 16th to the 26 i have been in North Carolina….to be precise Camp Lejune. The Marine base for training for the Regiment. First thing im going to say is…it was hell. Every day were were out in the field was a black flag day. This meant that even the Marines weren’t even training. The average weather there was 100deg 0 humidity, not to mention carrying at least an 50-70lb back pack an average of about 30 miles minimum over the course of the exercise. I was drinking about 2.5 camelbaks (3 liters each) of water daily and more. Got only 4 hours sleep 5 if i was lucky every night. There were tons of snakes and insects, poisonous and the non poisonous types, the contionous tick checks (one damn funny tick location, not on me but it does rhyme with tick to give you a clue), having your bivy (tent) partner find a poisonous snake in his bag first thing in the morning as you prep to put it on our back to move out. Soo many things to deal with.
Why in my right mind did I continue in cardre…. to be simple I want to be a photojournalist. If I could make it through all of this doing it on my own, with a truck should be easy. Ok personal dream and goals aside, being able to drive in an AAPC (aquatic armored personal carrier) across a river where crocs are chilling out on the banks, getting flown in a helicopter pulling high g-forces on each bank and turn, landing in a field being dropped off like it was an active war zone (this was the wost day for me……the past 4 years haven’t been able to take g-forces like I used to. Was thrown on to some one’s back and carried off the landing area over heated twice that day). Actually firing live rounds with you other squad mates next to you. (yes one wrong move and you could have gotten shot in the back (yes there wee a few people who had a death with and ran straight in to friendly fire; no one was hurt thanks to the staff keeping a close eye on us and putting a boot to any one who was stupid).
Soo many things happened on that trip….would I do it again………Hell no….it was brutal…..well only if I had a vehicle with Ac (or ice cold water) and could take photos instead of carrying a rifle. To all the guys I was with we made it through hell…..or more we should go to hell for a vacation…..
To those who do want a challenge join the regiment and do the cadre you will regret it during but after this trip your be like ok the crap was kinda worth it (At least for the vehicle rides and the paint ball….(I still have the welts but at lease i got the sergeant good….never seen some one do a little dance when trying to run)).
These rings are the final result of cooperation with a fellow designer. They brought the know how, I brought the really left of center ideas and the poking stick to get them done. What is shown here is 2/3 of the pieces made.
Because with the way that this has been going none of it has really been planed out. As more ideas come up the pieces them selves keep changing. We are at the point of designing new items.
I own one of the rings (…….2 of the 3 items made so far actually). If you ever see me on the street, feel free to ask to take a look.
Also Its been a week now and Splinter Cell conviction has been out for the 360. I have had a cover made up for it the past week.I wish my 360 never burned out at Christmas cause this is one of my favorite series.
Custom dvd/game/cd covers. you see them and want them but its just a small .jpg on the internet, you might even come across a site that deals exclusively in them and forget to save the fav and can never find them again. Trust me I’ve been there.
Well I decided to join those guys and start laying out my own custom covers. For those who have ever been in my room, both in Uni and back on the island you know that I have a ton of art books from movies/games/anime, you name it.
I took some time to do some for my latest game for the PS3 Final Fantasy XIII.
This was the last thing I ever expected to see on a rugby players shirt. This dude is nothing but fragile but we all know that. Saturday was the the final games of the official rugby season, before their off season beach games. During my time watching we had 3 injuries, a broken collar, pulled ankle, and one which I couldn’t tell you what happened. All of these guys walked off the field with little help after being bandaged up.
One of the highlights of the tournament was the under 19 game. This was the local team vs a foreign team (sorry i was never able to get where the off island team were from) But as the older guys these guys played hard and these were now official teams so they played even harder. I have to give props to these guys they had me running up and down the field trying to keep up with them. Unfortunately i wasn’t able to cover the entire match I’ll post the score when I can.
The next season starts after the summer, I’ll be following the different teams covering their matches.
I’d like to intro my good friend, great model, fashion designer and my ‘Boss’, Elisabeth Pihl-Jonstang….ok maybe she isn’t my boss but shes great none the less.
We’ve known each other for a few years now, first really meeting in an airport on a trip to Japan.
Before leaving London I had the pleasure of being able to shoot her and also some of her work (Radical Paninaro).
Since then she has continued to take that crazy sketch book filled with designs and create even more.
I look forward to the pleasure of working with her in the future.
If you want to see some of her more recent work recent shoots and sketch book visit her blog @ http://elisabethpihl-jonstang.blogspot.com/
Talk about a random find. I just this morning came across a random gem on this what we call the internet. I thikn that just about every photographer in this day and age can agree that photography has fallen from its previous glory now that every one has access to a camera, and people aren’t willing to pay or the time to get a fantastic and loved shoot. I being this up because i found the web comic ‘What the Duck’. The comic drawn like a news paper comic pokes fun about the experiences of photographers; from ‘Your camera takes great photos’ to ‘chimping’.
Take a look if your a photographer. ok you don’t have to be a photographer to enjoy the humor, take a look.
I’d like to say Congratulations to my cousin and the recent graduates of the Bermuda Police Force. Yesterday at 4pm their passing out ceremony was held. Bermuda now has 13 new Police Constables. These new constables come in at a hard time as shooting and gun crime on the island have become more frequent. Their 4 month or twenty week training program was unusually extended as their training was briefly put on hold to take up active duty, relieving full duty officer so they can actively increase the presence of the Police during those times. they have come a long way form when they first started and have further to go but for these 13 individuals this is a great achievement. I wish them all the best for the future.
